After discovering her love for Ashtanga Yoga, Emma Korkola decided to share her passion and opened a Ashtanga yoga studio to provide a safe and enriching atmosphere for learning. In 2005 she opened Yoga Mala, a beautiful, spacious studio situated in the heart of downtown Regina. As the studio and the students have evolved, Emma has expanded the yoga curriculum to provide more evening and weekend classes as well as expanding into other forms of Yoga such as Vinyasa, Sattva, Flow Yoga and Yin.
In 2010, through Emma’s dedication to her practice and students, Yoga Mala was able to expand to an adjacent location to open the Yoga Mala Learning Centre. Enriching the yoga community, Emma works to provide access to accomplished Yoga instructors through workshop and trainings. Past and future workshops teachers include David Swenson, Rameen Peyrow, David Robson, Tim Feldmann, Michael Gannon and Greg Nardi.
Yoga Mala believe in giving back to the community in which we live. Throughout the year Yoga Mala hosts karma classes in order to raise funds for a variety of causes as well out outright donations. As such, we have taken every opportunity to donate to local charities and causes including women’s shelters, Mackenzie Art Gallery, Globe Theatre, Hospitals of Regina, Regina Humane Society, Regina Food Bank, The Canadian Progress Club, Aids, Cancer, Diabetes and the list goes on.
